The Nahmad Collection is pleased to contribute to Lucio Fontana. Terra e oro an exhibition that focuses on Fontana's golden series of Concetto Spaziale paintings and his Crocifissioni Ceramics. Approximately fifty works will be on view, most of which were produced in the 1950s and 1960s. ⠀

Fontana's use of gold isn't in the Baroque sense of exalted ornamentation, but rather as a means to enclose light itself in its physical and aesthetic properties, as a compositional visual matter. ⠀
Gold for Fontana was perceived as a spatial component that, like in classical antiquity, early Christian, medieval and Renaissance works, was the synthesis of light and space.  ⠀
